Model Airplane Factory offers handmade B-17 Flying Fortress display model bomber wood, artistically created from wood. Multiple coats of clear lacquer is applied in B17 Sentimental Journey bomber model display to protect the exquisite artwork and provide an overall glossy finish. The rich color paint scheme and markings of the B17 Flying Fortress are cautiously painted to the assembled B-17 Flying Fortress display model aircraft. Every B17G Flying Fortress wooden display model is a work of art. After carving the wood, the B17 Sentimental Journey wood bomber will undergo stages of fine sanding, between primer coats, to produce a silky smooth finish ready for final painting. The B17 Fortress Sentimental Journey airplane bomber display is supplied with a mahogany base for display.
The B-17G was introduced onto the Fortress production line in July of 1943, and was destined to be produced in larger numbers than any other Fortress variant. The most readily-noticeable innovation introduced by the B-17G was the power-operated Bendix turret mounted in a chin-type installation underneath the nose. This turret was equipped with two 0.50-inch machine guns. This installation had first been tested in combat by the YB-40 and was found to be the only viable innovation introduced by the unsuccessful escort Fortress.
