After carving the wood, the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver Dive Bomber wood model airplane will undergo stages of fine sanding, between primer coats, to produce a silky smooth finish ready for final painting. The SB2C Helldiver mahogany model will be painted according to the specific color scheme of the SB2C Helldiver aircraft for their historical significance and authenticity.
The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was an American aircraft carrier-based dive bomber produced for the United States Navy during World War II. It replaced the Douglas SBD Dauntless in US Navy service. Despite its size, the SB2C was much faster than the SBD it replaced. Crew nicknames for the aircraft included the Big-Tailed Beast (or just the derogatory Beast), Two-Cee and Son-of-a-Bitch 2nd Class (after its designation and partly because of its reputation as a troublesome design).
The SB2C-4 is a Dive bomber aircraft. It was manufactured by Curtiss, Fairchild, and Canadian Car and Foundry. Its first flight was on the 18th of December 1940. Its primary users are United States Navy, U.S. Army Air Force, French Air Force, and Royal Thai Air Force. It was introduced on the 11th of November 1943 and retired in 1959 with Italian Air Force.
